Cash Register Peripherals

Based on your operational needs and requirements, here are some brief information on available peripherals...

These are fully supported with our supplied software (see the SOFTWARE tab above).

Customer Display

Customer displays comes in different sizes and functionalities. Most common is the classical 2x20 display which comes as standart with legacy systems. Recently, 2x20 displays comes with various functions, they even can display color graphics.

There are various LCD displays available to be used as customer displays. These can display high resolution images as well as videos in various formats. The display can be organized to function displaying the sales info as well as item images. It can display full screen promotional material like advertisement videos while the cash register is idling.

Barcode / QR Code Reader

Barcode readers are the most convenient way to sell an item. Most readers are capable of reading almost any barcode symbology. QR (or 2D) reading is generally for collecting more info about the item, like expiry date for foods of size info for shoes etc.

Readers can be hand-held type or desktop type based on your needs. Hand-held types are convenient for general merchandise sales. Groceries and food retailers mostly prefer table top models; since it is easy to integrate into check-out tables with conveyor belts. Some customers prefer to use integrated check-out scanner-scales where they can handle weighed items easily along with items to be scanned.

Scale

Items sold by their weighs require a scale either in within the store (grocerie section) or at the check-out.

In-store scales usually genarate a barcode to be attached to the item. These special barcodes are different than the ordinary item barcodes and it can carry item code, weigh information and/or pricing information. This information is interpereted by the POS software and item will be sold.

Check-our scales operates differently. The cashier lays down the item to be weighed on the scale and enters the item code to obtain its base price. The system communicates with the scale and reads the weight of the item, then, it will calculate the item price based on this weight using the entered item code.

Various scales and check-out scales are supported.

Cash Drawer

Almost all sales operations does require a cash drawer to handle banknotes and coins. Cash drawers can be in different type or sizes. these devices can be controlled via the software; they can be opened electronically and can be checked if they are open or not. Most of the drawers also have a keylock to secure them.

Cash drawers can be opened automatically based on the payment type accepted in the sales transaction.

Magnetic Stripe Readers (MSR)

Although it is an aging mechanism, most of the loyalty cards, gift cards, electronic purse cards carry a magnetic stripe on them. This stripe can contain a ISO standard formated information in three different tracks. Any kind of information can be pre-recorded on this magnetic stripe according to your needs by the card manufacturer (we do have partnerships to support your business). This information can be used to identify the cardholder in order to trigger customer based promotions etc.

Apart from this, cards can also be used for cashier sign-in process.

MSR's can be integrated with the operator display or can be atteched to the keyboard in legacy systems.

Keyboard

This is a phasing-out peripheral which was commonly used in legacy systems. As the touchscreen technology developed and became cheaper, most POS systems now have touchscreens which eliminates the need of a keyboard.

However, groceries and food retailers still finds keyboards as a convenient way to enter data. These keyboards can either appear as a full size QWERTY keyboard with MSR, numeric keypad and additional programmable keys; or, they can be a down-sized programmable keyboard with MSR and numeric keypad. Some types may have a touchpad to be used as apointing device.

Security Devices with RF-ID Readers

There is an emerging interst in RF-ID (Radio Frequency Identification) item tagging used along with a security (anti-theft) tag. This combination is commonly cheaper than the single use RF-ID tags (which is given away with the item) as it is designed to be used multiple times and functions as an anti-theft as well.

The system contains an embedded antenna with a security tag remover. Each tag, which is attached to the item, have an embedded RF-ID, which carries the information about the item itself as well as tag specific info.

Our supplied software can read the tag, sell the item, mark it as "sold" and can order the tag remover to remove the tag. Removed tag can be re-programmed and used for another item.

OCR Readers

OCR readers can be used as a peripheral for same specific applications.

One fine example is the duty-free sales operations at the airports. Slot reader type OCR readers connected to the POS systems can be used to read traveller passport information. Some OCR slot readers can also read specific 2D barcodes  printed on the boarding documents, which carries flight information.
